Event Series Event Series: Shifting Gears

Shifting Gears is an exhibit presented by the Drawing Material and Methods class at Colorado State University taught by Katie Simmons. Our work aims to question why most art instructors and the “art world” at large insist on labeling art made by undergraduate students as “student art”. Why is art made by students confined to a single category when, in actuality, it is as diverse as art made by professionals and instructors? Isn’t the actual problem that many instructors continue to use the same tired assignments year after year? Our artwork eschews the regulatory category of “student art” and embraces the simple idea of art made by human beings. Unbounded by the normal constraints of size, substrate, drawing material, and subject matter, our work explores who we are, what we want from our art, and the ideas we want to share with you.

Please join us at the Art Lab on November 13th and 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 for refreshments, conversation, brief talks presented by the artists, and remarks and awards presented by our guest juror. No tickets or purchase necessary, just bring yourself, your friends, and family! Please email Katie Simmons at [email protected] with questions.
