Spoken Word – Presentation Poetry Workshop —
Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 5:30 – 7:30 pm in Fort Collins.
– As working poets, we write alone. Then comes time to share our poems with the world and we panic, pray, & practice – but do we know how to present our writing? How do we lift it off the page in a way that excites and entertains our audience?
This workshop will help us begin to lift up our eyes and faces and engage with our listeners.
Somewhere between holding that trembling paper or squinting at our phone, and performing in a high-speed slam competition, there is a whole range of Spoken Word Presentation Poetry.
This workshop on Wednesday, October 23 will take us through that range and give us confidence that our work will be heard and appreciated. Well-known local poets / performers, Cortney Collins, the creator of Zoem Poetry, and Larry Holgerson, known to all as “Booger,” the host of the monthly Bean Cycle Slam for over 20 years, will escort us on our journey. (This event is not a slam. )
-NEW!!! – Register by sending an email to: [email protected]

“Presentation Poetry: From Page to Performance”
Wednesday, October 23 — 5:30 to 7:30 pm
ArtLab – Fort Collins, 239 Linden St. in Old Town
———————
Words from Cortney and Booger:
“Two accomplished actors have moved their act from the theater to presenting poetry in the Northern Colorado area. “Booger” has run the Fort Collins Poetry Slam for the last 20 years and Cortney Collins is a local featured poet, and the most winning slam poet of the FoCo Slam. Together they have assembled a workshop which will attempt to lift poetry off the page and create performance. They will cover tips in making the written word into spoken word. Instead of reading poetry to an audience, let’s investigate presenting our work as performance. Let’s talk about all the elements of performing poetry that leave your audiences on the edge of their seat, wanting more. Join us for an opportunity to move one of your poems into the realm of showtime.”
